About Momoshima

Momoshima, which is a part of Onomichi city in Hiroshima, is a small island in the middle of the Seto Inland sea, which is a mere eleven kilometers around yet rich in nature. Their agricultural products are known for oranges, clams and some vegetables.

1504  Chausuyama Castle is raised by Yoshitaka Murakami.
1535  Yahata Shrine is founded.
1579  Sairinji temple is built by Takayoshi Murakami.
1711  61 Households, Population of 587.
1815  128 Households, Population of 883.
1872  Momoshima Elementary School is founded.
1902  Public Office is placed by Enforcement of Cities,
     Towns and Villages System, and Village Assembly is made.
1913  403 Households, Population of 2,358.
1938  Telephone service is inaugurated.
1941  Momoshima Agricultural Cooperative Association is founded.
1947  Momoshima Junior High School is build.
1950  593 Households, Population of 2,889.
1955  Merged to Onomichi-City.

1973  Completion of First Term Construction of Momoshima Junior High School
     (Present ART BASE MOMOSHIMA) New School Building.
1977  Completion of Second Term Construction of  Momoshima Junior High School
     (Present ART BASE MOMOSHIMA) New School Building and new Gymnasium.
1975  Ferry service starts from Fukuda Pier to mainland.
1993  462 Households, Population of 1,038.
2000  Momoshima Kindergarten and Momoshima Elementary
     and Junior High Schools are Unified, and  Annexed.
2005  Momoshima Clinic Closed.
2011  Momoshima Clinic Resumption.
2012  336 Households, Population of 580 (as of April).
2012  ART BASE MOMOSHIMA's First Term Public Presentation.
