柳幸典

柳幸典YANAGI Yukinori

1959年福岡生まれ。1991年にイエール大学大学院修了。1993年、第45回ヴェネチア ・ ビエンナーレに選ばれ、アペルト部門で日本人で始めて受賞する。以後ニューヨークにスタジオを構え、 多くの国際展に招待される。1992年の直島コンテンポラリー・アート・ミュージアム(当時)の開館に伴い個展に招待された事が始まりで瀬戸内海の島の魅力に取り憑かれ、1995年に銅の精錬所廃墟がある犬島に出会い「犬島プロジェクト」を着想する。2008年、明治の近代化産業遺産と昭和の三島由紀夫のメッセージに自然エネルギーの技術を融合させた美術館、「犬島精錬所美術館」を完成させる。ニューヨーク近代美術館やイギリスのテート・モダンなど多くの美術館に作品が収蔵されている。

Born in Fukuoka in 1959, received his MFA in Sculpture from Yale University in 1990. In 1993, Yanagi participated in the 45th Venice Biennale and became the first Japanese artist to be selected from the Aperto exhibition. Yanagi also showed his works in Japan in many solo exhibitions, such as the Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum. In 2008, he completed his long-term project, “Inujima Seirensho Art Museum” in Okayama, which exhibits a permanent site-specific installation of the artist.
